I had an “ah-ha” moment a few years back. My small group from church made dinner and brought donations to a women’s shelter. While we were there, several residents came in. The donations that we brought were out for them to take what they needed. Within seconds, they quickly gathered all the hygiene items like deodorant, soap, toothpaste, etc. It occurred to me that these were the items most needed!

When giving to a food pantry, we most often will think of canned goods, mac and cheese and peanut butter. While these are certainly helpful, make sure to check with your local food pantry about what items are needed the most. It might surprise you what they say!

Another tip- make a habit to look for BYGO sale items at the grocery store and take advantage of the sales with the local food pantry in mind.
